Welcome to the Academy of Dreams Unlimited

It is with a degree of sadness that I have to announce the closure of the drama and film school after thirty year of teaching and training. Unfortunately, times change and the market place is flooded with drama schools nowadays, all competing with one another to develop young people for the stage or the camera. Regrettably, unlike Dreams, not too many schools offer the holistic approach to drama, which encourages youngsters to develop their emotional and physical well-being as well as their talent. Too often training is superficial, all on the surface, rather than deeper and more meaningful. Perhaps this country has become too much like America, where apples are grown for their appearance rather than their taste! Who knows?

Ours was a hard choice to make but was driven, in the main, by financial constraints. Room hire charges have risen so rapidly in thirty years and fees have been forced to keep pace with them. When we first began in 1979 the fees were fifty pence per week for a three hour class but latterly, we have had to charge twelve pounds per week for three hours, in order to cover spiralling costs!

Both my wife and I have now reached retiring age and we need to break away from teaching if we are to sustain our health for the future. We tried our best to find a way to keep the school running but discovered that it had become far too expensive to continue. Given all the recent strictures from HMG concerning police checks, records on children etc. it was unreasonable to expect anyone to take on such a burden. Ruefully, we realised that my wife and I had been subsidising the school for the past ten years in order to keep it going. This was plainly ridiculous and we decided that it was time to call a halt and leave the work to younger people who have the will and determination to continue.

We would like to wish all our students, both past and present, all the very best for the future. We should also like to thank them for their loyal support over the years. Without them we would not have been able to keep going as long as we have.

Goodbye all.
